It seems that as the year comes to a close, the transition period between one season/holiday and the next gets shorter and shorter. Here are four easy ways to get your home feeling warm and cozy for the coming winter.

1: Throw Pillows & Blankets

One of the easiest ways to add a cozy winter feel to your home is to bring in fresh, new throw blankets and pillows. This is an affordable way to change up your home for the season. Rich colors like deep burgundies, forest greens, and warm burnt oranges are all great choices for winter palettes.

2: Candles/Fireplace

Candles are a quick and easy way to get your home feeling cozy. Scattering candles throughout one's home can help with mood and ambiance. Scents like vanilla, warm spices, and woodsy notes are great for creating a cozy winter atmosphere.

If your home doesn't have a fireplace, candles can replicate that warm feeling you get from the flame. If your fireplace is wood-burning, now is a great time to stock up on firewood. If it is gas, check that all systems are working properly before the cold really sets in.

3: Rugs & Window Coverings

Rugs and Window Coverings are another fantastic way to bring texture and comfort to your home. This is also a functional choice, as rugs add warmth to cold floors and window coverings help retain heat and block cold drafts.

And of course my specialty, window coverings! Efficient window coverings are one of the most effective and easiest ways to keep your home warm during the winter. Look for cellular shades or layered drapery panels for maximum insulation.

4: Rearranging to accommodate your plants in the Winter

Now is also a great time to do small furniture rearrangements so indoor plants get the most of the winter light that's available. Move plants closer to south-facing windows and away from cold drafts near exterior doors and windows.

Here's to a beautiful and warm winter! XOXO -Osha
